White House Chief of Staff Susie Wills stated in a fresh Fox News interview that President Trump has evolved into a more capable leader compared to when he first took office eight years ago, yet personally, she still lacks faith in it.
“He has experienced a lot. He was the head of the free world and the law he was attempting to dismantle. He is a changed man now,” Wills mentioned during a dialogue with Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law and Fox News figure, which is set to air this weekend. “I believe that life experiences have played a role in transforming him.”
“I consider him to be a better leader today,” she said further. “I’m not sure if it is related, but I believe the nation will gain from this.”
On Thursday, snippets were released from the interview, which will be showcased on Fox News this Saturday at 9 PM during an episode of “My Views with Lara Trump.” This marks Wills’ first television interview since Trump’s inauguration in January.
At 67, Wills has been a longstanding figure in the GOP political scene, having co-chaired Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and receiving widespread acclaim for her crucial role in his victory. She was also the first female Chief of Staff in the White House.
“I have spent nearly my entire career in politics and government, and I have been invigorated by this over the last several years,” she stated in a discussion.
She requested Trump to head his campaign for nearly eight years following his first inauguration, and when he called upon her to lead his campaign starting January 6, 2021—nearly four years after leaving the White House—she felt the timing was correct given the Capitol riots that were occurring.
She expressed that she was ready to take on the challenge.
“Being part of the Trump circle means you are competitive—you strive to win. You aim to articulate your thoughts, stand by your beliefs, and create a nation that aligns with our best ideals. That’s what motivates me and what keeps me engaged.”
“I might possess a subtle competitiveness,” Wills remarked, revealing that the president affectionately refers to her as “Ice Maiden” and “Ice Baby.”
Wills further elaborated on her perception of her responsibilities in Trump’s second administration.
“My objective is to keep operations running smoothly and on schedule, so that the subject matter experts, notably the President and Vice President, can execute what is necessary to rectify the country,” she explained.
