Surveillance Video Reveals Details of Stabbing Incident in Charlotte

Recently released surveillance footage has captured DeCarlos DeJuan Brown Jr. in the moments leading up to a stabbing incident involving 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Irina Zalutka. The video shows Brown, aged 34, boarding a Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) light rail train, exiting it, and subsequently being detained by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department just before the attack.

This footage, acquired through Freedom of Information Act requests by Fox News Digital, highlights Brown’s actions both before and after the violent event on August 22.

Emergency Calls after the Attack

A collection of five urgent 911 calls made immediately following the stabbing has been disclosed, part of the details surrounding this tragic incident. One caller indicated, “This guy stabbed her for no reason,” while another reported, “The woman is collapsing. She’s bleeding profusely. I don’t think she’s responsive.”

Video Evidence of Brown’s Movements

In one segment of the video, Brown is seen strolling along the platform in casual attire before boarding the train. Another clip captures him walking back down the platform after disembarking, holding a red sweatshirt. Moments later, police video reveals officers quickly encircling Brown as he is approached near the light rail tracks, where he was seen holding a cloth around his right hand.

Officers apprehended Brown without incident, and he was treated for injuries before being taken into custody. He later faced charges, including first-degree murder and mass transit violence leading to death.

Details of the Incident

When officers arrived at the scene near 1821 Camden Road, they found Zalutka unresponsive, suffering from three stab wounds to her throat. Tragically, she was pronounced dead shortly after.

As FBI Special Agent James Barnacle Jr. remarked, it seems likely that Zalutka had frequently taken that train before. Perhaps after a demanding day at work, she simply wanted to head home, but this time, things took a harrowing turn.

The unsettling reality of such violence in everyday public spaces raises many questions about safety and the unpredictable nature of life.
