Tucson Shooting Incident Injures Nine

A 21-year-old man is facing multiple charges after allegedly firing shots in a bustling downtown Tucson area early on Sunday, injuring nine individuals before police could intervene.

David Leroy French has been charged with nine counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, along with nine counts of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, and one count of discharging a firearm into a structure, according to a spokesperson from the Tucson Police Department.

French was booked while at the hospital, and authorities plan to transfer him to the Pima County Adult Detention Center once he is discharged.

Additionally, more charges may follow, according to police.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. in the 100 block of East Congress Street, an area known for its nightlife with numerous bars and restaurants.

Reports indicate that the gunfire erupted after a verbal dispute. Detectives identified French as the shooter by reviewing surveillance footage.

According to police, an officer patrolling the vicinity heard the gunshots and quickly made his way to the scene on foot.

Officers witnessed French fleeing and repeatedly ordered him to stop. When he allegedly ignored their commands, uniformed officers discharged their weapons, hitting him.

French was subsequently captured and received immediate medical assistance before being transported to the hospital in critical condition.

As for the injured, nine individuals were taken to local hospitals, mainly suffering from injuries to their arms and legs. Thankfully, there were no reported fatalities, and none of the police officers were harmed.

Due to a ruling by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office stated that they will not be releasing French’s mugshot at this stage.
