Authorities in Brazil have detained individuals allegedly linked to a terror plot aimed at a Lady Gaga concert.
This week, Brazilian officials revealed the arrest of 44-year-old Luis da Silva, who was accused of planning to harm a fan during Lady Gaga’s highly anticipated performance in Copacabana Beach on Saturday.
The concert, which attracted a staggering 2.5 million attendees, was the focus of Da Silva’s intentions, as he expressed hopes to “execute children and plant bombs near the stage.”
“He claimed that the singer was a Satanist and suggested she would engage in a Satanic ritual during the concert and that a child would be harmed,” said Officer Felipe Kili, Chief of the Civil Police, in a briefing on Monday.
Authorities noted that Da Silva had been recently deported from the United States, though the reasons remain unclear. He was taken into custody alongside a 17-year-old shortly before the concert, with reports indicating they attempted to radicalize others to target members of the LGBTQ+ community present at the event, including minors.
Rep. Erica Hilton from São Paulo expressed concerns on social media, stating that Da Silva led a group promoting harmful ideologies including pedophilia and anti-LGBTQ+ sentiments.
Chief Luis Lima of the Rio de Janeiro Civic Police, responsible for cybercrime cases, emphasized that this arrest potentially saved numerous lives.
“This coordinated action was significant; it prevented a tragedy that could have tarnished many lives,” he noted, highlighting the dangers posed by such organized factions.
