Suspect in Charlie Kirk Shooting Officially Charged; Death Penalty Requested

Incident Involving Charlie Kirk Leads to Arrest

Authorities have revealed that violent crimes were committed in the presence of a child during a local Utah court case involving Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA). The allegations include felony discharge of a firearm resulting in serious injuries and obstruction of justice.

Tyler Robinson, 22, could face the death penalty if convicted of charges stemming from Kirk’s death on September 10th during a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem. Officials confirmed that Robinson targeted Kirk due to his “political expression.”

According to authorities, Robinson shot Kirk from the roof of UVU’s Losee Center and then fled the scene. A manhunt ensued, leading to the FBI releasing surveillance images of Robinson, who was seen wearing a black hat and sunglasses.

Robinson was arrested in Washington County after his father recognized him from the surveillance footage and confronted him. Reports indicate that Robinson confessed to the killing, although initially, he threatened his father with suicide before leading him to a pastor who reported the situation to the police.

Additionally, he reportedly told a friend online, “I was from UVU yesterday,” adding to the investigation’s findings. Authorities located Robinson’s rifle, which was abandoned in a wooded area wrapped in towels. The FBI director mentioned that Robinson’s DNA was found on the towel, and evidence was collected from the rooftop where the shot was fired.

Bullet casings discovered at the scene carried messages including, “Hey fascist! Catch!” along with anti-fascist phrases linked to a song titled “Bella Ciao.”

As of now, Robinson is being held at the Utah County Jail without bail and is expected to appear virtually in court on Tuesday.
