Over 300 child marriages recorded in Germany: report

A man in Germany has been taken into custody on suspicion of arson after he allegedly set a mountain retreat, originally built for Adolf Hitler, ablaze. The fire occurred at the Eagle’s Nest in the Bavarian Alps on Friday evening, with firefighting teams facing considerable challenges due to strong winds.

The arrested individual, a 33-year-old German citizen, reportedly displayed signs of mental illness and has since been transferred to a psychiatric facility, according to authorities.

Although investigators are examining the possibility of a political motive due to the site’s infamous history, it remains unclear whether this played a direct role in the incident.

The suspect was observed descending the mountain on a motorcycle. Known as the Kehlsteinhaus in Germany, this building is situated more than 6,000 feet above sea level and is accessible by elevator for tourists during daytime hours.

Since 1952, it has operated as a seasonal restaurant and tourist spot, providing an exhibit detailing its historical significance.

Interestingly, despite its connection to Hitler, he reportedly used the retreat infrequently, favoring his nearby Berghof residence, which was destroyed following the war.

Bavaria’s interior minister, Joachim Herrmann, expressed the intention to find a meaningful solution regarding the future of the site, stating, “We’re not going to leave a ruin there. I think we will be able to find a sensible solution.”

Thankfully, officials confirmed that no injuries have been reported in connection with the fire.
