Suspect in handcuffs drives off in Dallas police car with officer onboard

A typical traffic stop turned chaotic when a handcuffed suspect took control of a police car in Dallas, putting an officer in the back seat before driving away. This bizarre event happened on May 30 around 5:35 p.m., shortly after two officers pulled over a vehicle on South Marsalis Street.

The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Stacey Huffman, was placed in the back of the police car. Surveillance footage shows Huffman managing to slip one hand out of the cuff and trying to hide his hands behind his back. After officers began transporting him to jail, he attempted to open the locked rear door and unbuckle his seatbelt.

By around 6:10 p.m., officers had stopped a patrol vehicle to further detain Huffman. Suddenly, both officers stepped out, and Huffman jumped into the driver’s seat, speeding off. One officer managed to get into the back seat and even discharged a Taser, reportedly to no avail as Huffman pulled it away.

Amidst the chaos, the officer was heard repeatedly shouting, “Stop the car!” while Huffman accelerated. Eventually, the officer used his weapon to struck Huffman as they hit the road. Footage captured the officer being violently thrown from the back seat when the patrol car veered off course.

Authorities noted that Huffman was moving at about 80 mph when he exited the car through the open driver’s side door. Following the incident, officers reported the patrol car traveled roughly 1,000 feet under Huffman’s control for about 30 seconds before the officer regained the front seat after Huffman jumped out.

Both Huffman and the officer were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Huffman is now expected to face multiple charges, including driving with an invalid license, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and escaping from custody. The investigation into this unusual incident is ongoing.
