A man from Vallejo, identified as Roberto Alfonso Tamayo-Cazares, is alleged to have fatally shot 29-year-old Cecilia Corsetti, who had aspirations of recording music. This incident occurred on May 1 near Indiana and Sutter streets, not far from her mother’s residence. While she was rushed to a local hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound, doctors were unable to save her.
Family members spent time reflecting on the life of Corsetti, describing her as someone with a “beautiful soul,” while also lamenting the loss of an aspiring artist. Following the investigation, authorities issued a murder warrant for Tamayo-Cazares on May 6, but he remained at large for nearly two weeks.
On a subsequent Tuesday morning, another shooting took place on the same street where Corsetti was murdered. An adult male was shot and later taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In light of this incident, detectives quickly connected Tamayo-Cazares, who was already a suspect in Corsetti’s death, to the new shooting. Later that afternoon, a California Highway Patrol helicopter spotted him driving in Vallejo and attempted to pull him over. However, instead of stopping, he fled, prompting a manhunt across the city.
At one point, officers were able to disable his vehicle using a tire deflation device near Chico Street and Beverly Drive, but he managed to escape into a residential area. Police then set up a perimeter and searched the area extensively until they found him hiding outside a home on Beverly Drive. He was taken into custody without incident and is now facing charges that include murder and other firearm-related offenses.
As for the second shooting, additional charges are still being evaluated. Vallejo Police Chief Jason Ta remarked on the coordinated effort that led to his arrest, highlighting the use of various tactics and technology to locate and apprehend him.
Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive for either shooting, and there’s some uncertainty regarding Tamayo-Cazares’s citizenship status, as the police stated they have not investigated that aspect.
