A suspect with a long history of criminal behavior, Kevin Debuisson, faces multiple charges after an attempted carjacking incident in Queens. This follows a situation where an NYPD detective was injured due to “friendly fire.” The shooting took place as officers were responding to the chaotic scene on Saturday.

Debuisson, 28, was seen smiling as he was escorted to an ambulance by officers from the 109th precinct on Saturday afternoon. He faces charges including robbery, assault, threats, and attempted robbery, after a series of criminal acts that began on Friday.

The specifics of his previous offenses are unclear, but Debuisson was reportedly caught in gray sweatpants and a sweatshirt while handcuffed. This isn’t the first time he’s been in legal trouble; he was recently paroled for an attempted robbery in Brooklyn.

The chaos began at around 8:40 AM when Debuisson allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle from a gas station on Parsons Boulevard. He reportedly intimidated gas station employees during this brief encounter.

Shortly after, he is accused of trying to carjack a 32-year-old woman and later attacking a 52-year-old Uber driver near Whitestone Highway. The situation escalated when police responded to a 911 call regarding the ongoing events.

During the confrontation that ensued, three officers fired their weapons before 9 AM, resulting in Detective Corey Fisher being shot in his right hand and left foot. Fisher, a veteran officer with 12 years on the job, was transported to Jamaica Hospital. Thankfully, Mayor Eric Adams reported that his injuries are not life-threatening and he is expected to recover completely.

Reports indicate that Debuisson’s crime spree might have started the previous evening, as he allegedly stole two vehicles and crashed one at a construction site. Hours later, he was arrested after evading a metro turnstile, only to be released with a desk appearance ticket.
