A 66-year-old Michigan woman was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving drunk and crashing into a boat club, killing two children and injuring 13 others, authorities said.

“Unfortunately, two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, including siblings, an 8-year-old female and a 5-year-old male,” the sheriff said.
The scene was “extremely chaotic” and witnesses showed “intense emotions,” the sheriff said, and the woman driving the car was booked into the Monroe County Jail on suspicion of “death while intoxicated.” He added that he was in custody. Although he did not identify her.
Goodnow said the suspect is cooperating with police and will likely face further charges as the investigation progresses.
When asked by a journalist during a press conference about reports that the suspect had been drinking at a local bar, Goodnow said, “We have information that she may have been there, yes. We went in. . We are in the process of executing a search warrant seeking information regarding their operations that day.”
The sheriff said preliminary estimates put the total number of victims at 15, but it was difficult to know how many people were at the boat club because of the confusion caused by the tragedy and communication difficulties.
At the end of the press conference, the reporter said, “This is just a horrible story.”
“That’s right,” Sheriff Goodnow replied.
