Suspected Gang War Bombings in Amsterdam After Shooting of Rapper

A series of apparently gang-war-style bombings occurred in Amsterdam this week, following the shooting death of a local rapper whose involvement in organized crime has long been rumored.

There were at least three house explosions in the Dutch capital Amsterdam on Tuesday night, and the word “war” was graffitied on the walls of two of the apparently bombed areas. Der Telegraph report.

Police said they believed the explosion was related to a dispute over the murder of 26-year-old rapper Danzel Cyrus, also known by his stage name Bigidago, who was shot dead in Amsterdam’s Sloterdijk district.

Cyrus was attending a party with friends on Saturday night, police said. As he was leaving the event, he was shot by an assailant in the parking lot. He was taken to a hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Bigidagoe had a long history of involvement in crime in the Netherlands, and authorities believed much of his lavish lifestyle was the result of the cocaine trade. In August 2020, he shot But Amsterdam has recovered from the previous shooting.

Last year, the Dutch public prosecutor’s office called Cyrus was sentenced to four years in prison for kidnapping rival rapper Kobas L, but the case was not decided before his death.

Immediately after the killing, three explosions in residential areas shook Amsterdam, with suspected bombings occurring late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning on Mastobos Street, Poprilenweg Street and Kjellbergen Street.

At least three people have been arrested so far on suspicion of being involved in the bombing, which police say appears to be the result of a feud between two rival rap groups after Cyro’s murder.

On Wednesday, a 20-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested at Paris Airport in connection with Saturday night’s Silo shooting. Authorities said the man was attempting to flee to French Guiana, South America. The suspect is already in custody and will be handed over to the public prosecutor’s office in Amsterdam.
