Three Hamas Members Arrested in Germany for Alleged Attack Plot
German officials have apprehended three individuals linked to Hamas on charges related to a potential attack targeting Israel or Jewish institutions within Germany, according to reports from The Associated Press.
Of those arrested, two are German citizens, while the third was born in Lebanon. They have been identified only by their initials—Abed al G., Wael FM, and Ahmad I—as per German privacy laws. They are set to face court on Thursday.
During the arrests, authorities uncovered several firearms, including an AK-47 assault rifle and multiple handguns, along with a significant quantity of ammunition, as stated in a release from the federal prosecutors cited by Reuters.
German Officials Condemn Actions of Certain Shopkeepers
Sources familiar with the situation mentioned that the suspects are in their thirties or forties. It’s worth noting that Germany has a deep historical connection to the Holocaust and maintains stringent security protocols at synagogues and Jewish community centers. Similar protests occurred in France, the UK, and various other nations last month.
Notably, Hamas has not yet responded to the proposed 20-point Gaza plan from President Trump, which calls for disarmament of extremist factions.
Earlier in February, four individuals associated with Hamas faced trial in Berlin, marking a significant legal action against extremists from the Palestinian group within Germany.
