Suspected IVF Clinic Bomber Disagreed with Population Growth

Explosion at Fertility Clinic Linked to Anti-Natalist Suspect

The individual believed to be behind the explosion at a fertility clinic in Palm Springs, California, on Saturday is said to hold “anti-Natalist” views, opposing the idea of increasing the population.

The blast took place at the American Reproductive Center (ARC) just before 11 a.m., causing window damage and scattering debris around the area. Reports indicate that this incident has been recognized as deliberate.

The suspect has been identified as Edward Burtks, a 25-year-old from Twentinin Palms. The FBI has categorized this as an intentional act. Akil Davis, head of the FBI’s Los Angeles office, stated, “This was a deliberate act of terrorism. As our investigation unfolds, we will determine whether it is international or domestic terrorism.”

According to reports, the suspect made statements against population growth and in vitro fertilization (IVF) through various writings and recordings.

The explosion has been described as resulting from a large vehicle-borne improvised explosive device, and its impact was felt over a distance of more than a mile.

Further reports reveal that several nearby structures caught fire during the incident, which caused damage to local businesses as well. In response, Gov. Gavin Newsom emphasized that the nation is collaborating with local and federal entities as the investigation continues and urged people to steer clear of the area.

Casualties from the explosion include four individuals who sustained injuries due to the blast. The facility, which is involved in IVF treatments and egg collection, thankfully reported that its lab containing eggs and embryos remained unharmed.

Sources indicate that an internal briefing retrieved by the LA Times quoted police finding two rifles with ammunition adjacent to the vehicle involved in the explosion.

The FBI is now focusing on the suspect’s online presence, examining social media posts and approximately 30 minutes of audio recordings that appear to align with anti-Natalist beliefs. Investigators suspect these may shed light on the motivations behind the bombing.

Anti-Natalism, as defined in recent reports, signifies the belief that individuals should refrain from having children.
