Suspected member of the Tren de Aragua gang apprehended during federal operation in Washington DC

Tren de Aragua Gang Member Arrested in D.C.

Another member of the Tren de Aragua gang was apprehended on Monday evening in Washington, D.C. According to the Department of Justice, over 1,094 arrests have been made, along with 115 illegal weapons seized in recent efforts.

“Last night, 87 arrests occurred, with four guns confiscated in Washington, D.C. Not a single carjacking was reported. Additionally, we caught another Tren de Aragua member burning an American flag in Lafayette Park,” stated Bondi in a post on X on Tuesday morning.

With the latest arrest of a Venezuelan suspect associated with Tren de Aragua, Bondi noted that there have been numerous immigration-related arrests in recent months, including individuals believed to be linked to the MS-13 gang.

This month, President Trump announced a federal intervention, deploying the National Guard from various states alongside federal agencies such as ICE and the FBI to enhance security measures in the area.

Meanwhile, Terry Cole, the supervisor of the Drug Enforcement Bureau, has been appointed to oversee this new law enforcement initiative. There have been indications that the president might take even further action in the coming weeks.

Additionally, top law enforcement agencies are issuing cash rewards for information leading to arrests amid this intensified crackdown.

Bondi expressed confidence in the ongoing operations, proclaiming, “Washington, D.C. is safe again! The crowds are returning, and the vibe is uplifting. The National Guard and police are doing an excellent job. They are effective and serious about their responsibilities!”

However, Bondi criticized Mayor Muriel Bowser for allegedly providing misleading crime statistics, especially in light of the intensified federal presence.

On a different note, President Trump signed an executive order to eliminate cashless bail for detainees in D.C., a move that has drawn criticism from local Democrats. This executive action has been described as a challenge to effective, data-driven policies.

For those monitoring the implications of this policy change, it raises questions about justice and public safety, especially regarding whether local governments should retain some control over their judicial processes.
