Authorities Identify New England Serial Killer

In light of recent rumors concerning numerous bodies uncovered in the region, authorities have announced that they have identified a serial killer linked to several cold case murders in New England dating back more than a decade.

Kevin Reno, 38, faces charges for the murders of two men in Massachusetts, one in 2010 and another in 2012, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office. District Attorney Marian Ryan described Reno as a serial killer, explaining, “The Department of Justice defines a serial killer as someone who takes the lives of two people in separate circumstances. Two people have already been convicted in this case, and we are currently indicting two more.”

For months, communities across New England have been shaken by fears of a serial killer, particularly after more than a dozen bodies were discovered in Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. However, Reno is not linked to these recent deaths.

The new charges stem from Reno’s existing life sentence and additional 40-year sentence for the 2012 murder of Norman Balleur and the 2014 murder of Jack Gilbert Berry. According to reports, Reno’s first alleged murder occurred in 2010 when he bludgeoned Gary Melancon, 54, to death with a baseball bat at a homeless campsite in Lowell, Massachusetts. Reno reportedly attacked Melancon after the latter refused to extinguish a fire that he was using for warmth.

In 2012, while living among others in a homeless encampment near the Harvard Square subway station, Reno is accused of attempting to drive out heroin users from the area. Prosecutors say that when Douglas Leon Clark, 30, confronted him, Reno retaliated by administering a fatal dose of heroin.

Prosecutors indicated that Reno’s actions displayed a pattern of targeting vulnerable individuals within the homeless community. “This defendant is alleged to have repeatedly and intentionally victimized some of the most vulnerable members of our community. The acts alleged…were not only violent and cruel, they were inhumane,” Ryan commented.

Reno now faces two counts of first-degree murder and awaits trial while being held in a Massachusetts prison. Authorities suspect he may have more victims yet to be identified. Ryan emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, stating, “We never give up on these cases. We never forget a case and are always open to other information.”
