Suspected Tren de Aragua gang members in Aurora, Colorado released on $1,000 bond

Two suspects, a member of the Tren de Aragua gang and a Venezuelan national, were released on $1,000 bail, police said.

Nixon and Dixon Azuaje-Perez were arrested by Aurora police on suspicion of tampering with evidence in connection with the July 28 shooting.

“Both men posted $1,000 bail,” an Aurora Police Department spokesperson said in an email to Fox News Digital.

The waiver of bail works directly against ICE, which had requested that both Nixon and Dixon be detained.

Aurora City Councilman Daniel Jurinski criticized the Aurora Police Department's actions in an exclusive statement to Fox News Digital.

“The city of Aurora and the state of Colorado need to take this seriously at some point. This is really unfortunate. I would like to know what the Aurora Police Department plans to do to monitor these two individuals now that they're out on bail,” Jurinski said.

Nearby Denver, Colorado, is a sanctuary city, meaning officials there do not cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The two men, alleged members of the Tren de Aragua gang, are Venezuelan nationals and illegally crossed the southern border in 2023.

Both Nixon and Dixon Azuaje Perez were arrested by Border Patrol agents in Eagle Pass, Texas, last August and were subsequently served notices to appear and released into the US pending their court appearance.
