Changes in ACC with Belichick at UNC
The ACC is seeing a shift as Bill Belichick takes the helm at North Carolina’s Tar Heels, creating buzz among college football fans. Long-time Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney remarked that the meeting felt akin to facing the “New England Patriots.”
Swinney spoke candidly with ESPN’s Lake Davis, sharing that he isn’t overly concerned about NFL coaches transitioning into college football. He even quipped about having a “secret sauce” to outmaneuver the Tar Heels when they met on October 4th.
Ryan Allen, a specialist coach at Clemson, formerly played under Belichick, which adds an interesting dynamic to their coaching strategies. “We’re counting on him to help us figure out how to tackle your punt block team and more,” Swinney commented regarding Allen.
Looking ahead, after facing the Tar Heels, Clemson will take on O’Brien’s Eagles the following week. Swinney humorously compared their schedule to playing an entire Patriots organization, saying, “We go to North Carolina, then Boston University.”
With Belichick leading the UNC team, new challenges are definitely on the table for the ACC. But Clemson has had success against UNC, winning 14 times since Swinney took over in 2018, including a solid 31-20 victory in their last meeting.
Belichick is keen to end the Tar Heels’ losing streak against Clemson. In the last ten contests, UNC has managed just one win against the Tigers. Last season, Clemson ended up 10-4 and reached the expanded college football playoffs, only to lose to Texas in the first round.
The Tigers are set to revitalize their lineup with the return of quarterback Kade Krunik, who has flourished under Swinney’s guidance. Additionally, they secured Tom Allen from Pennsylvania through the transfer portal.
Currently, ESPN ranks Clemson as the 11th team in their preseason polls. It’s an exciting time in college football, with plenty of potential twists and turns on the horizon.
Swinney makes a lighthearted comment about going up against the ‘New England Patriots’ with Belichick joining the ACC.
