Syracuse coach Fran Brown reveals he won’t shower after losses: ‘Don’t deserve soap’

Syracuse football coach Fran Brown has an unconventional ritual for when his team doesn't win a game.

In a bizarre revelation to reporters at a press conference on Monday, Brown detailed that he doesn't shower until the day after the Orange lose because he feels he “doesn't deserve to use soap.”

At 3-3 in the ACC this season, Syracuse's hopes of making it to the conference title game are dwindling, with a loss to Boston College over the weekend especially painful.

“Honestly, when you lose, it's like a ritual.” Brown told reporters in a video posted by CNY's Ashley Wenskoski. “I didn't even take a shower until early this morning. I'm just mad, brush my teeth. I'm like, 'I don't deserve soap.' I'm not qualified to do that. 'I'm focused on recovering and making sure the players understand mentally that I let them down.' they didn't do that. It keeps me awake all night. Especially when you lose. I woke up like shit, it really happened like that. And I just move on. ”

The Syracuse coach went on to explain his ritual honestly, later revealing that not showering after a loss means he can't sleep in the same bed as his wife.

“I'm just mad. I'm just going to sit there and brush my teeth,” Brown continued. “I feel like I have to do that so people don't say my breath stinks. But I'm kind of bound to certain things. You have to earn the right to do it. So the winners will be washed away and the losers will just have to wait a little bit.”
