Syringe manufacturing plant planned in eastern North Carolina will employ 400

A company that makes containers and syringes for vaccines and other medicines will build a new manufacturing plant in eastern North Carolina, creating 400 jobs by the end of the decade, officials announced Monday.

German company Schott Pharma’s U.S. operations will begin construction of a production facility in Wilson this year, investing $371 million in the project, the company announced in a news release.

The factory will produce prefillable polymer and glass syringes for pharmaceutical and biotech companies, which will be used for injectable vaccines in the U.S. and other therapeutics, including messenger RNA and GLP-1 for the treatment of diabetes. SCHOTT Pharma USA was attracted to Wilson County in part by about $23 million in state and local financial, infrastructure and training incentives, according to state Department of Commerce documents.
