Hello! After 27 days, 20 teams, three wash outs, two super overs and a couple of semi-final damp squibs, here we are – Barbados for the big one. The reigning champions were shed in the semi-finals, the losing 2022 finalists sent home in the first round, instead we have cricketing colossus India, who haven’t won this tournament since 2007, and perennial tournament semi-finalists, South Africa, who finally kicked the door down earlier this week.

India wiped the floor with England in the semi-final; South Africa were even more dominant against Afghanistan – albeit on a capricious pitch. Both teams have daemons to fight – India, won’t want to think too deeply about the recent 50-over World Cup final against Australia, South Africa have seven previous ICC competition semi-final defeats under their belt.

Rohit Sharma’s team are clear favourites, but South Africa’s bowling firepower could yet see them through – plus they’ve got the best jerseys. Tropical storm Beryl is expected to become a hurricane before it hits Barbados on Monday, but for now all is calm. They walk out for the toss at 3 o’clock BST, and kicks off at 3.30. Don’t miss it!

Important Events
Wickets! Suryakumar c Klaassen b Rabada 3 (India 34-3)
Kusun lies on his back, grabs Suryakumar at fine leg and then pumps his arm up and down. A typical Sky flick, but this time it hits the fielder. Rabada roars.
Fourth match: India 32-2 (Kohli 21, Suryakumar 2) All eyes are now on Kohli, who has been lackluster so far in the World Cup, and Maharaj is wary, eyes wide, but he drops wide a few times and Kohli catches the ball, sending it flying through covers for four.
Third round: India 26-2 (Kohli 15, Suryakumar 2) Suryakumar He took a risk after floating the ball just past mid-on in front of the goal.
Second round: India 23-w (Kohli 14, Suryakumar 0) Maharaj got four off the first two balls, Rohit was on a roll and it looked like a sure win for India. But it wasn’t to be. Rohit erred in swerving to get the fielder out and then two balls later he swept Pant out as well.
Wickets! Pant c de Kock b Maharaj 0 (India 23-2)
The sweep also hit Pant! Pant hit a top edge which floated up and fell obediently into de Kock’s gloves.
Wickets! Rohit c Klaassen b Maharaj 9 (India 23-1)
Sweep – but straight to square leg! Big one.
1st innings: India 15-0 (Rohit 1, Kohli 14) Rohit took a single off the first ball, then Kohli opened his face and got Jansen for four off the second ball, then he got another four but Jansen came off the line and was hit on the hip, then he got lucky and got another four, a ball that went straight down the ground, splitting the chasing fielder in half and smashing for a boundary.
No change in either case, Kohli and Sharma in the middle, the pitch a honey-shine 22 yards. Marco Jansen is at the top of his run-up to bowl the ball to himself. Ready? Let’s get started…
Great anthemsBut one side is more popular than the other with the crowd (mostly Indian supporters in blue shirts).
Trophies are awarded Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Mottley comes on in a yellow shirt and Chris Gayle in a black beret. Time for the national anthem!
South Africa XI
South Africa: Quinton de Kock (wk), Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram (captain), Heinrich Klaassen, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Marco Janssen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi.
India XI
India: Rohit Sharma (captain), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Suriya Kumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Akshar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah.
It’s a reminder that neither team is yet to lose in this tournament. Nasser Hussain peers out at the pitch, which isn’t the crazy South Africa-Afghanistan pavement but feels more like smooth, hard honey. There’s no grass to be seen.
India win the toss and will be taking charge of batting!
Ravi Shastri, fluffy shirt, Aiden Markram and Rohit Sharma are introduced in the boxing ring wearing big green hats, arms folded, seemingly overwhelmed by the commotion.
However, he is happy to have won the toss. “It’s a good pitch. South Africa have played very good cricket in this tournament and so have we, so it will be a good match. We have had a range of players perform well for us and that’s what you want in a team sport.”No changes for India.
Want some professional advice? Mark Ramprakash picked India with Bumrah in the driving seat: “When he comes back in the last two overs, how do you play against him? You can’t play ramp shots because of the variation of his slow ball and his quick ball is a bit of a challenge. Really “Fast. There are good bowlers around but he is India’s X-factor.”

preamble
Hello! Twenty-seven days, 20 teams, three eliminations, two super overs and some lackluster semi-final matches later, here we are, with Barbados playing the biggest game of all. The reigning champions were eliminated in the semi-finals, along with the 2022 finalists, to face off instead against cricketing giants India, who haven’t won the tournament since 2007, and perennial semi-finalists South Africa, who finally claimed victory earlier this week.
India dominated England in the semi-final. South Africa were even more dominant against Afghanistan, albeit on a wayward pitch. Both teams have demons to battle. India will not want to dwell too much on their recent 50-over World Cup final against Australia, while South Africa have lost their previous seven ICC tournament semi-finals.
Rohit Sharma’s South African team are the clear favourites to win, but the firepower of South African bowling could carry them through. Plus, they have the best jersey. Tropical Storm Beryl is expected to become a hurricane before making landfall in Barbados on Monday, but for now it’s calm. They’ll be out for the toss at 3pm BST and kick off at 3.30pm. Don’t miss it!
