Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut parent to integrate AI into drive-thrus

Yum Brands, the parent company of Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, KFC and Habit Burger & Grill, will work with Nvidia to enhance artificial intelligence-powered technology in restaurants that will be equipped with immediate audio activation orders in Drive Thrus.

Over the next few months, several advanced AI-driven solutions will be implemented in Yum-branded locations. According to the company.

One of the main implementations is voice-activated ordering AI, which manages drive-through orders and call center operations.

Designed to understand natural speech, AI can adapt in real time to customer preferences and menu changes.

Another innovation includes operational enhanced computer vision. There, Nvidia's cutting-edge computer vision tools optimize restaurant workflows by providing real-time insights.

These tools streamline drive-through services and improve kitchen operations through data-driven alerts and analytics.

AI-powered analytics are also utilized to evaluate restaurant performance and provide managers with personalized action plans based on insights from high-performance locations.

According to Yum Brands, this intelligence helps you make decisions and operate coordination, maximizing efficiency.

“We're committed to providing a range of services to our customers,” said Joe Park, Chief Digital & Technology Officer at Yum Brands.

Initial tests are already underway at some Taco Bell and Pizza Hut locations in the US.

The company plans to roll out AI-driven technology to 500 restaurants across the brand by the second quarter of the year.

These innovations will be fully integrated into BYTE by Yum, the company's proprietary digital platform launched earlier this year.

BYTE acts as a central hub for online and mobile ordering, payments, inventory and labor management.

Over time, the Yum brand will phase out old systems and streamline restaurant management by integrating all digital operations under BYTE.

It is unclear whether the company plans to fire workers who can do their jobs through AI-powered technology. This post is being asked for comment from Yum Brands.

AI is expected to drive millions of jobs around the world over the next few years, with estimated 400-800 million workers going to move into new roles by 2030.

In the US, AI-driven automation has already contributed to layoffs, particularly in the technology and customer service sector. Some studies suggest that up to 38% of employment may be at high risk.

However, AI is also expected to create new opportunities, particularly in areas such as machine learning and data science.

Some researchers argue that AI primarily converts jobs rather than eliminate them, with positions being swapped completely at a small percentage.

Last year, McDonald's ended its AI pilot program at 100 locations. The customer complained Regarding wrong drives through orders.
