St. John’s Kadary Richmond looking like himself in best game yet
Cadderly Richmond is becoming increasingly influential. He's similar to the player who made a huge difference last season at Seton Hall. Wednesday night was Johnny's best so far in Richmond. He's great defensively and is very powerful with the ball in his hands. He helped St. John's force overtime and rally from a 16-point deficit […]
St. John’s stages second-half rally to beat Xavier in OT
Eight days later, St. John's put on another Houdini performance. Leading by 10 points at halftime. You will be completely outmaneuvered. That engine, Davon Smith, was out with a shoulder injury and was on the bench, drenched in sweat. But just like last Tuesday against Georgetown, the Johnnies made a furious comeback. This time it […]

Deivon Smith talks way back into St. John’s lineup after shoulder injury
A little more than 24 hours ago, Davon Smith's status was uncertain. Head coach Rick Pitino didn't expect St. John's engine point guard to play against Seton Hall while working his way back from a bruised right shoulder. The pain was still there. Smith was unable to practice. Davon Smith passes Garway Dual during St. […]
St. John’s demolishes Seton Hall as Kadary Richmond thrives
Rick Pitino was right. Saturday's special spotlight didn't bother Cadary Richmond, but Seton Hall fans inside Prudential Center booed his former team every time he touched the ball. A sign from the Pirate Student Affairs Division mocked Richmond. They seduced the stoic guard and caused him to lose his cool in the hostile backdrop that […]
St. John’s Kadary Richmond not afraid to receive Seton Hall fans’ vitriol
Rick Pitino laughed at the suggestion. No, the St. John's coach said with a smile, the jeers won't affect senior guard Cadary Richmond as he returns to the Prudential Center as an opponent. “I think getting booed is something he can handle,” the Hall of Fame coach said Friday as his team prepared for a […]

St. John’s grinds out win over Georgetown for fourth straight victory
It was ugly. It was awkward. It was equal parts frustrating and infuriating at times. Deivon Smith could return to St. John’s lineup vs. Seton Hall
St. John's looks like it could get its speedy point guard back for the next game. After Tuesday night's hard-fought 63-58 win over Georgetown, coach Rick Pitino said he expects Davon Smith to return for Newark's game against Seton Hall on Saturday. Smith, the Johnny's driving force, missed the win against the Hoyas with a […]
Latest gritty come-from-behind win was quintessential St. John’s
There was a moment early Tuesday night when St. John's missed its next shot. It's hard to remember if it was a 3-pointer, a mid-range jumper or a layup. In that part of the game, they were equal opportunity bricklayers as the overhead scoreboard recalculated Johnny's shooting percentage. Then, as I listened closely, the scoreboard […]
