Taiwan Investment Company Plans $1 Billion Bitcoin Fund for Asian Treasuries

Simply put

  • SORA Ventures is looking to raise $1 billion to enhance Bitcoin investments in Asia.
  • The firm plans to gather an additional $800 million in BTC over the next six months.
  • Last year, SORA invested in Metaplanet, recognized as Asia’s largest Bitcoin finance company.

Crypto venture capital firm Sora Ventures has announced its intention to raise $1 billion to bolster Bitcoin finances in the region, according to the Asian Treasury Ministry.

The company, starting with $200 million from its partners and investors, is striving to secure another $800 million in Bitcoin within the next six months.

“This is the first time Asia has seen such a substantial commitment towards establishing a network of Bitcoin finance companies, and it marks a capital commitment to Asia’s inaugural $1 billion financial fund,” SORA partner Luke Liu commented.

The fund is expected to operate differently compared to other Bitcoin investment entities in the area, like Metaplanet, which is publicly owned and maintains 20,000 BTC valued at over $2.2 billion on its balance sheet.

In contrast, SORA’s fund will act as “a central pool of institutional capital aimed at supporting existing companies and fostering the creation of similar Treasury ministries worldwide.”

Sora Ventures has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the operational specifics of the fund.

Based in Taiwan, the firm aspires to elevate Asia to the same level as Western markets regarding institutional Bitcoin adoption.

“Asia is crucial for the advancement of blockchain technology and Bitcoin. While institutional interest is rising in the US and EU concerning Bitcoin Treasuries, efforts in Asia tend to be somewhat disjointed.”

“This marks a historic moment where institutional funding is being centralized from local to global stages.”

Last year, Sora made an investment in Metaplanet, Asia’s leading Bitcoin finance entity. In July, the company participated in acquiring a domestic firm in Thailand, which is now implementing a Bitcoin financial model.

The Bitcoin financial movement began emerging with Michael Saylor and his software company’s strategy back in 2020. Presently, over 300 organizations hold substantial crypto assets within their balance sheets.

Bitcoin has seen a 1.2% increase over the last day and is currently trading at $110,842.
