Pakistan's airstrikes in Afghanistan on Tuesday killed 46 people, including women and children, Taliban officials said. Associated Press.
Afghan government deputy spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat said the airstrikes hit four locations in Barmal district.
Pakistani security officials told the AP that their mission was to kill rebels and bomb training facilities.
Afghanistan's foreign ministry in Kabul said the country “will not tolerate any violation of its territory under any circumstances and is ready to defend its independence and territory.”
The statement declared Pakistan's actions “irresponsible” and said there would be “consequences”.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said Pakistan's attack was aimed at “sowing mistrust in bilateral relations”.
Pakistani officials did not directly respond to the claims, but Pakistan's special representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, was on the ground in Kabul to discuss various issues before the airstrike.
Pakistani leaders have blamed the Taliban for a recent increase in extremist attacks within their borders, and are responding with attacks inside Afghanistan.
The Taliban deny these reports.
