The self-checkout experience at Target is about to change.
Targeted shoppers will begin using an “Express Self-Checkout” format starting Sunday at most of the nearly 2,000 retail stores across the country.
Target says customers who wish to use Express Self-Checkout must have 10 or fewer items in their possession.

The retailer said the nationwide changes are aimed at “making the checkout experience even more enjoyable” and were informed by guest feedback.

In the fall, about 200 Target stores began using Express Self-Checkout for 10 items as part of a pilot test. The retailer says self-checkout speeds have been significantly faster at these stores.

“By being able to choose self-checkout for short trips or traditional manned lanes for full carts, surveyed guests also said their overall checkout experience was improved. ” said Target.

The company said it will let each store decide when to offer self-checkout, but it will “be available during the busiest shopping hours.”
Target’s profits soar despite a drop in sales during the holiday season, and sales are expected to recover in 2024
Target also announced Thursday that it will increase the number of full-service, manned cash registers available at each store.

Target launches new paid membership program
Target has announced other initiatives in recent weeks. The company revealed in early March that it would be upgrading its Target Circle loyalty program to offer paid memberships, both of which are expected to debut next month.
