‘Task’ Star Discloses Perry Did Not Mean to Kill Eryn in Episode 5: “I Only Wanted Her to Be Quiet”

HBO’s Character Deaths Continue in Episode 5

Well, HBO has done it again—another character meets a tragic end in this week’s episode, “Vagrants.” These heart-wrenching moments not only give the characters a fleeting chance for redemption but also hint at the underlying violence that leads to their demise. Was it all just an accident?

**Spoilers for HBO Episode 5 “Vagrants”**

In the beginning of Episode 5, we follow Perry Dorazo, played by Jamie McShane, as he tracks down Eryn, portrayed by Margarita Levieva, in a hidden spot overlooking the quarry. Perry sees Robbie (Tom Pelfrey) leave, which confirms for him that Erin is, in fact, a traitor, acting against the darkness following the death of her boyfriend, Billy.

Erin panics when Perry finds her. She jumps into the water, hoping to attract the attention of nearby campers. The scene cuts to a group of teenagers who are completely oblivious to the danger, engrossed in their loud music.

“What I love about cinema is how quickly you can shift perspectives,” director Jeremiah Zagal explained. “It’s tragic, really. There’s hope, but then it’s kind of sucked away.”

As the kids continue to ignore the chaos around them, Perry lets loose his rage on Erin. They end up in a struggle, and it seems he gains the upper hand. But, interestingly, Perry looks horrified by what he’s done. When asked whether his character intended to kill Erin, McShane replied, “No, no, no. He was planning to bring her back and let her husband deal with her.”

“I wanted to bring her back, but when she tried to escape and swim away, I had to silence her. Plus, there was a kid watching from the hillside, and I didn’t want her to attract any attention,” he added.

Turning to his co-star Sam Keeley, who plays Erin’s partner Jason, McShane teased, “Your wife isn’t going to be quiet.” Keeley could only shake her head, “She didn’t stick to that plan.”

Perry then expresses a desire to leave Erin’s body in the water, desperately trying to hide his role in her death. Who could blame him, really? After all, Erin’s betrayal stemmed from jealousy over Jason, which led to her boyfriend Billy’s tragic end.

Don’t miss Episode 6 of HBO’s series returning on Sunday, October 12th.
