Taylor Momsen Talks About Possible Grinch Sequel
Taylor Momsen, who was just seven when she played Cindy Lou Who in the 2000 movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas, shared her thoughts on a potential sequel recently. At an event in February 2026, she clarified that, as far as she knows, nothing is currently in production.
“There’s nothing that I know of,” she mentioned while attending the Jam for Jamie Grammy Awards Viewing Party hosted by Steven Tyler. “There are some things we haven’t touched on. It’s a timeless masterpiece that’s been around for so long.”
That said, in November, she hinted that a second project might not be off the table. “When Jim Carrey asks you to do something, you pay attention, so we’ll take a look at it,” she said.
This came after a reunion with Carrey at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, which was quite surreal for her. “It’s really crazy,” she reflected, noting that 25 years had passed since their last encounter. “The whole thing is so crazy. When Matt Cameron said that to me, my head almost exploded. The odds are one in a billion.”
To celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary, Momsen and her band, The Pretty Reckless, re-recorded the song “Where’s Christmas?”. She reminisced about her excitement as a child when she first learned her character would sing in the movie. “It was my first studio experience, and that’s where my love for recording started,” she explained.
Momsen shared some behind-the-scenes memories as well. The sled she rode in was on giant springs, and she fondly recalled a moment when she nearly fell off, causing Carrey to panic. “We had a great time,” she said, laughing off the near-miss. “I didn’t think much about it at the time.”
She also appreciated Carrey’s protective nature during filming. “Jim was very, very protective of me as a kid, always looking out for me.” Looking back, she felt safe and enjoyed every moment spent with him.
Interestingly, Carrey himself is pondering the idea of reprising his role for another Grinch film. “Everywhere you go, people keep asking about it, and that makes me so frustrated,” he remarked, expressing a mix of irritation and amusement.
