What kind of reaction would you get if you told Ernie Johnson it was all thanks to “the mastermind”? Well, during Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday, the ESPN broadcaster snapped a photo with Taylor Swift, instantly earning the title of “coolest grandpa ever.”

In a cheerful courtside moment at Madison Square Garden, Johnson and Swift were seen grinning and arm in arm.

He attended the New York Knicks vs. San Antonio Spurs game dressed in a suit, while Swift sported a custom “Stevie Nicks” T-shirt.

“My grandkids are over the moon, and my daughter is just thrilled,” the 69-year-old shared with viewers, raving, “She was such a sweet person.”

With genuine gratitude, Johnson added, “Thank you so much, Taylor Swift.”

His friends at work playfully coaxed him into giving her a hug, noting it was more of a “friendly” embrace than a “grandpa hug.”

Colleagues continued to poke fun at him, highlighting his jubilant demeanor. Charles Barkley humorously commented, “Mission accomplished,” as they laughed about Swift being a notable encounter—especially since he was married to his wife for over 40 years.

Later on, Johnson revisited his “moment with Taylor Swift,” drawing light-hearted jabs about his “sly smile” and how he held his hands.

He boasted to viewers, “Look at the text thread. I sent it to all my kids and grandkids.”

His fellow reporters jokingly suggested that Johnson should seek a “wedding invitation” from Swift and her fiancé, Travis Kelce. The couple, who started dating in 2023, plan to tie the knot in July at the same venue where the local team just won a nail-biter.

Meanwhile, Swift was there with her friends Este and Alana Haim, who cheered alongside actress Mariska Hargitay, all nestled in the celebrity section.

Swift celebrated the victory while her boyfriend was busy with his football obligations in Missouri. Interestingly, she narrowly missed a run-in with her former rival Scooter Braun, who attended with Sydney Sweeney, but made headlines when she shared a hug with Kylie Jenner, despite her long-standing feud with Kim Kardashian.
