Taylor Swift, Donna Kelce hug as Travis makes history with Patrick Mahomes

Travis Kelce finally came into his own in the first half on Thursday night, making a big catch in the second quarter.

The Chiefs tight end's pop superstar girlfriend was pretty excited, too.

Kelce completed a 1-yard pass, his first catch of the 2024 season, then drilled a deep pass on the far side of the field to set up a Kansas City field goal on third-and-12 and give the Chiefs a 27-20 victory.

After a short gain by Kelce, Chiefs tackle Jawan Taylor was called for a false start, resulting in a third down and a long pass with just over eight minutes left in the first half.

Mahomes then took the snap out of the shotgun, waited a moment longer and then popped out of the pocket to avoid a sack.

Taking to the run, he found Kelce for a 23-yard pass.

The pass was historic for the Chiefs. Mahomes now holds the franchise record for most passing yards..

It's unclear whether Swift knew history was at stake, but she seemed pleased with the embrace, as she was seen embracing Kelsey's mother, Donna, in a suite, as filmed by the NBC broadcast.

It was a similar scene to last season, when the “Cruel Summer” singer made multiple appearances at Chiefs games, usually alongside Kelsey's family and other celebrities.

But the Chiefs couldn't get back into the end zone on that drive, and Harrison Butker's field goal gave them a 13-7 lead.

Kelce had three catches for 34 yards receiving in the season-opening win.
