Taylor Swift effect: Chiefs coach offers advice to singer after fans boo

Taylor Swift saw the Kansas City Chiefs want a three-peat fizzle earlier this month as the Philadelphia Eagles steamed the Chiefs to win the 2025 Super Bowl.

Swift traveled to New Orleans to support the Chiefs and her boyfriend, Travis Kels. At one point, Swift appeared on the big screen of the game Caesars Superdome.

Some fans in the building appeared to disapprove of Swift's presence, prompting the music star to loudly and with some boos. During the NFL Scouting Combine's visit to Indianapolis this week, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid praised how Swift handled the criticism.

Reed explains that Swift is a “good girl” and says that he used the right approach when faced with scrutiny.

“She's a good girl,” Reid told Pro Football Talk. “She handles all of that in the right way. It's tough. She does an amazing job dealing with it.”

Reed also praised Kelse for his reaction to the increased noise.

“I think Kelse does an amazing job handling that,” the coach added.

Reed suggested that criticism of NFL players' loved ones often comes to the territory.

“She's part of the team and like other girlfriends and wives, they're part of that. It's all part of the process.”

Targeting Swift, Boo appeared to coincide with some of Boo's Chiefs, who at first glance had to compete from the Pro Eguls crowd, as they came out of the tunnel before the Super Bowl began.

Swift and Kelce have maintained a relatively low profile since the Super Bowl. On February 18th, the “New Heights” podcast announced there would be no new episodes that week.

“There are no new episodes this week, but we'll soon be back with great guests and offseason episodes,” the official podcast account posted on social media.

Travis and Jason Kelce regularly post new episodes of their podcasts each week.

Much of the chatter about Travis was about whether he would return to chief next season. In a recent episode of “New Heights,” Kelse said, “I can do everything I can go down the road,” as he is related to his decision to quit. He will turn 36 in October.

Reid said he urged Kelse to take a little time to “run away” before deciding on his football future.

“I told him, 'Run away. Don't think about everything. Just relax. Relax. After relaxing, I had time for that,” Reed said at the combine. “I know there's a deadline there, but he and I always talk about it, so I get it from him.”

The Super Bowl loss also led to a disappointing end to Kelce's 12th NFL season. He finished the regular season with 823 receiving yards. This is the second year in a row when a star tight end failed to reach the 1,000-yard mark.

When he appeared in “The Stephen A. Smith Show” last month, Kelce admitted that his thoughts about retirement tend to fluctuate, but he plans to “reevaluate” him during the offseason.

The NFL veteran also said Swift continues to provide her full support for his playing career.

“She's totally encouraging her to enjoy this game,” Kelse told Smith. “I got all the support of the world to continue chasing these dreams.”

Chief general manager Brett Väch suggested that Kelse was leaning towards playing in 2025.

“The way we left at the end of the season is that he was fired. He's been through another year on his contract,” Veach said.

“I think he still wants that fire and play, and as far as I'm concerned, there's no deadline.
