They were the “anti-heroes” in the “love story.”
Some men married to Taylor Swift fans can't cope with their wives' unwavering love for the pop star, leading to big fights, tears, and ultimately divorce — despite the scorned Swift. Because they feel empowered by the pop star's farewell anthem.
Kristin Collins, 41, said she couldn't stand her ex-husband's devotion to Swift and even blamed the songstress for causing “bad blood” during their nine-year marriage.
“As I started to talk more openly about my feelings in relationships, her music was often criticized,” said Collins, a writer who lives in Tucson, Arizona. It was like, “Maybe he was ruminating on our problems.''
Ms Collins said the 'I Knew You Were Trouble' singer had also sparked an 'explosive debate'.
“We probably used it as some kind of projection or a way to avoid the topic of what we wanted to discuss,” she told the Post.
“His anger toward me would become anger toward Taylor Swift, and my fierce defense of her replaced my own.”
It didn't help that her ex-boyfriend was a musician, Collins said, and felt the need to criticize Swift's art every chance he got.
“He just said, 'She's not good.'” And I said, “Billy Joel thinks he's good, and Stevie Nicks and Paul McCartney… publicly recognized her talent,” she recalled.
Collins even turned to the 34-year-old superstar's songs for emotional support when her “marriage was falling apart”.
“I was listening to songs like 'Tolerate It,' when Taylor sang, 'But what if I break free and leave us in ruins/Put this dagger inside me? Take away / Gain your weight and then lose it / Believe me, I can do it.”
“I thought I could do it too, get out of a relationship that had become really unhealthy,” she recalls.
So she did. She filed for divorce in 2021 and has since renewed her vows with Swift, meeting Chiefs star Travis Kelce's girlfriend at multiple concerts.
“Since my divorce, I have traveled with my girlfriends to Las Vegas, Portugal and New Orleans to see Taylor perform, something I never would have been able to do when we were married,” she said.
The mother of two said her ex-husband began to tolerate Swift after witnessing his children's love for her.
“I think he's doing his best as a father right now in a way that he wasn't able to as a husband, so I want to pass that on to him,” she said.
That was not the case for Sarah K. Sarah K.'s ex-husband didn't want their daughters to listen to his music during their nine-year marriage.
“Every time I played her music in the car, he'd say, 'These lyrics aren't appropriate for kids,' and change the song,” she recalled.
“He always said, 'She's not a good role model, she's not a good role model.' She's provocative. She's giving girls a message that they shouldn't believe. “And I always thought, 'She feels so empowering.' ”
Sarah, 32, a freelancer and wedding content creator from Buckeye, Arizona, said she used Swift's songs to help her overcome her “physical, verbal, emotional and mental” abuse. Ta.
“November. The last time he physically abused me was on the 29th of last year, and that's when I decided to break up with him,” she said.
“Then, later that day, Taylor released a song called 'You're Losing Me,' and the lyrics were literally what happened to me that day. …When I heard that song, I was like, 'You're Losing Me.' He wrote this for me!'
The mother of two said the lyrics to Swift's song “It's Time to Go'' helped her realize that she shouldn't be with him for the sake of her children. “Leaving this will only hurt their hearts even more,” she said.
“And I always thought that by staying here, I was saving my children from this sadness and pain. But I realized that by leaving, I was actually giving them a sense of freedom.” Because they don't have to live in this environment where they're walking on eggshells all the time.”
Sarah officially walked away from her husband in January. In June, her friends surprised her with a trip to Swift's Ellas Tour concert in London following their divorce.
“She played 'The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,' and I screamed it out. Tears were streaming down my face. It hurt, but at the same time it was so healing. ” she said.
Sarah is currently dating a woman and lets her listen to Tay Tay as much as she wants.
“I found someone amazing. She wasn't a Swiftie, but she totally supported my obsession,” she said.
“We listen to her stories all the time. I break down lyrics for her and throw dance parties. It's amazing.”
