Taylor Swift made an unexpected appearance during Dakota Johnson’s opening monologue on “Saturday Night Live,” stepping in as a playful “therapist” for her friend.
As Johnson humorously addressed her “two very public, very lame breakups with two very awesome musicians,” Swift suddenly appeared on stage, bringing cheers from the audience.
“Some of them don’t wear shoes, some are terrible in bed. All of them slide into my DMs. But it’s not my fault! Some fans leave concerts with merch, while I exit with a two-and-a-half-year relationship,” Johnson joked, drawing a connection to her new thriller, “Verity.”
“But I do have supportive friends who don’t judge my dating choices,” she added before Swift joined her on stage.
“Ladies and gentlemen, my actual therapist,” Johnson introduced Swift.
In a playful retort, Swift replied, “I’m not your therapist, actually. You just show up at my place weekly with an empty wine bottle and ask if I want some.”
Johnson responded, “Yep, I know how to be polite.”
“Then you flop on my couch, oversharing about your dating life, and all I can say is, ‘Wow, that’s something.’ Eventually, I realize it’s late and think about going to bed,” Swift continued.
“Sleepover yay!” Johnson interrupted excitedly.
“Then, I give you Pedialyte and my security takes you home,” Swift added, giving her friend a playful pat.
In her monologue, Johnson also joked about doing a public service by dating musicians and saving women a fortune on antidepressants like Zoloft.
“So, you’re welcome, America—also to England and parts of Ireland and Cleveland, I guess,” she quipped, referencing rumors about her link to Machine Gun Kelly, who hails from Cleveland.
Swift cheered upon hearing Cleveland mentioned, as it’s also the hometown of her husband, Travis Kelce.
Swift then excitedly noted it was Johnson’s birthday as the actress kicked off the show.
This marks Swift’s ninth appearance on “SNL,” including roles as a musical guest, a host once, and several cameos.
In addition, Johnson stars with Colin Farrell in Swift’s new music video for “Patient Zero,” which Swift directed and co-starred in. The video debuted at the MTV Video Music Awards last Sunday and depicts Johnson and Farrell as a couple whose relationship is unraveling.
Johnson’s past relationships include Noah Gersh from 2007 to 2010, followed by Mathew Hitt from the band Drowners from 2014 to 2016. She was also linked to Coldplay’s Chris Martin from 2017 until 2025, and more recently, she had a brief relationship with musician Role Model before splitting in 2026. Rumors have circulated about a casual romance between Johnson and Machine Gun Kelly after they reportedly connected at Swift and Kelce’s wedding in July.
