Stop what you’re doing!
Taylor Swift has just announced some exciting news during a surprise visit to her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast.
“I’m releasing a new album, titled ‘The Life of a Showgirl,'” Swift shared.
This announcement follows her recent acquisition in May of the masters for her first six studio albums: Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Resporting.
In a heartfelt handwritten note shared on Instagram, the 35-year-old star expressed, “I’ve been crying at random times since I realized this was really happening. I can finally say those words.” She continued with a sense of ownership, stating, “All the music I’ve ever made… belongs to me now.”
She emphasized that she “owns memories, magic, madness, all ages,” along with her concert films, music videos, photos, album art, and unreleased tracks.
Before this, she had hinted at releasing Vault Tracks, re-recording her 2006 debut album, and mentioned enjoying “How It Sound.” However, she noted that, despite some speculation, she hasn’t finished re-recording her 2017 album, “Reputation.” “These two albums can have their moments when the time feels right,” she commented.
“All the music I’ve made so far… belongs to me now,” she shared. “I’m trying to gather my thoughts into something coherent, but honestly, my mind feels like a slideshow right now.”
She later indicated that if the re-recording of “Reputation” happens, it will be a joyful celebration, not driven by any regret or longing.
In a twist, Scooter Braun infamously purchased the rights to her first six albums for $300 million in 2019, just before they were acquired by Shamrock Capital a year later, all without Swift’s consent.
In 2019, following this turn of events, Swift signed a contract with Republic Records and Universal Music Group for her subsequent albums, which include “Lovers,” “Folklore,” “Evermore,” “Midnight,” and “The Tortured Poets Division.”
Swift also managed to re-record and release four of her original albums from which she lost her rights.
This latest announcement comes on the heels of reports that Swift has been engaged in a “Top Secret” project after wrapping up her record-breaking ERAS tour last December. An insider mentioned, “Taylor was filming a new music video in Los Angeles recently. The crew was strictly forbidden from listening to the songs, even the beats.”
