Taylor Swift wasn’t very familiar with football at all when she started dating Travis Kelce. Out of curiosity, she asked him about what it was like to go up against his brother, who also played on the field.
On their first date, when discussing game schedules, Swift questioned when the Kansas City Chiefs would face the Eagles, Jason Kelce’s former team. She recalled, “He didn’t even look at me,” later reflecting, “Looking back, I realize that was an absurd question.”
She shared that she thought everyone was on the field simultaneously, which—well—surprised her. Now, she finds herself quite invested in football, even saying she’s “obsessed” with it. Travis remarked, “I really appreciate your genuine dive into the world of football.”
Jason, who retired after playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, and Travis were part of the memorable Super Bowl in 2023, where the Chiefs triumphed over the Eagles 38-35.
Swift and Travis began dating a few months later after they met at an ERAS tour performance in Missouri during the summer. Back then, he felt he couldn’t grab the attention of the pop star.
In a July 2023 episode of “New Heights,” an astonished Travis admitted that Swift wasn’t really aware of him behind the scenes. He described his feelings of disappointment over not talking to her before or after the show, lamenting, “I was a bit of a jerk since I couldn’t give her the bracelet I made for her.”
On the podcast, Swift humorously recounted how Travis became frustrated, saying, “He threw a man’s tantrum, insisting, ‘I want to date you!’” It’s clear their initial connection didn’t go entirely as planned.
Despite the awkward start, their romance took off in the months that followed. Swift likened her determination to connect with Travis to the character arcs in ’80s John Hughes films, saying, “I want to date you! I want to make you a friendship bracelet! Would you like to date me?”

When Jason teased Swift about how true it was that the Chiefs’ Andy Reid set them up, Travis cheekily added, “Cupid. Big Red.”
