Taylor Swift Reflects on First Date with Travis Kelce
Taylor Swift shared a candid moment about her first date with Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, who had attended her ERAS tour in the summer of 2023.
During his appearance on the “New Heights” podcast, Swift recounted how he had no knowledge of football at that time. “In our early conversations, it was clear he wasn’t overly familiar with the sport. He really is like a human exclamation point,” the 35-year-old singer noted. “Since then, I’ve definitely ramped up my use of exclamation points, and honestly, there’s no judgment for not knowing the ins and outs of the game.”
“On our first date, I even asked him what it was like when the Chiefs faced the Eagles in the Super Bowl,” Swift remembered. “With the brothers playing offensive positions at different times, it’s funny to think now that I expected him to be at a loss for words.” She laughed as she continued, “He hardly even looked at me!”
Swift reflected on how naive her questions were at the time. “Looking back, I realize how ridiculous that was. I thought everyone played at once, and I had no clue what a first down was! But I got really interested in it—totally hooked.”
Swift and Kelce first went public with their relationship in October 2023, spotted together in New York City. In a December interview with Time Magazine, she shared that they were officially a couple by the time they attended a game against the Bears in September.
“This new world Travis has opened up for me is fantastic. It’s exhilarating and—wow—what pressure these athletes are under. I really respect everyone on his team,” she said.
Kelce has expressed his happiness on his podcast, calling himself the luckiest man around. “I didn’t really get to see the suite when I was playing; there were no cameras around,” Swift pointed out.
Reflecting on her past with sports, Swift mentioned, “Growing up in Pennsylvania, I remember my dad yelling at the TV during Eagles games. In a funny way, I was always more inclined towards music.” She added, “But I’ve really gotten into sports because of Travis. I find myself being competitive for him!”
Swift humorously concluded, “It’s amusing to think back on how, two years ago, Travis decided to turn the podcast into his personal dating app. Look where we are now!”
