Murder Charges in Devilsden State Park Case

A 28-year-old teacher has been charged with the murder of a couple in Devilsden State Park, Arkansas. Authorities identified the suspect as James Andrew McGan. He faces two counts of capital murder in connection with the deaths of 43-year-old Clinton David Brink and his 41-year-old wife, Kristen Amanda Brink.

The Brinks were discovered deceased on a walking trail in the park on Saturday afternoon. Their two young daughters, aged 9 and 7, were with them but thankfully emerged unhurt and are now safe with family.

After a few days of searching, McGan was apprehended at a barber shop in Springdale before 5 PM. According to District Principal Jared Cleveland, McGan had been hired as a teacher in the Springdale Public School District for this academic year, although he had yet to start working.

“This individual has not been in contact with Springdale students or families at any time,” Cleveland stated, emphasizing that further information is limited due to the ongoing investigation. “Our entire team expresses our deepest sympathy. The children are especially in our thoughts and prayers,” he added.

Before this incident, McGan worked as a fifth-grade teacher in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, during the 2023-2024 school year. A representative from the school district reported that he had passed the required background checks.

Prior to his arrest, authorities described McGan as a white man of medium build, wearing a long-sleeved shirt, dark pants, a dark cap, sunglasses, and fingerless gloves while carrying a black backpack. Additionally, they released a composite sketch showing a man in a baseball cap, who was seen driving a black four-door sedan away from the park.

Law enforcement officials have not disclosed details about how the Brinks were killed or what may have motivated the attack.
