This week, a math teacher from Louisiana Middle School faced arrest after a random drug search that involved a dog.
Virginia Summers was taken into custody on Tuesday at Westdale Middle School in Baton Rouge, according to local reports.
The drug-sniffing dog reacted near Summers, leading its handlers to detect illegal substances.
Summers, aged 47, was found to possess cocaine, which was subsequently seized after she was searched.
The substance was confirmed to be cocaine, the report stated.
Summers claimed the drugs belonged to a friend, explaining she was only holding it during a recent football tailgate event at Louisiana State.
However, a search of her vehicle uncovered marijuana and some glass pipes.
Charged with possession of drugs and related paraphernalia, Summers had been teaching for over ten years.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools noted in a statement that illegal substances were found during the drug search on campus.
They further emphasized their commitment to maintaining a drug-free environment and stated that the matter would be addressed per their policies.
It’s unclear if Summers will be returning to school on Monday, as there hasn’t been an immediate comment regarding her status.
