Florida Teacher Wins Lawsuit, Publishes Book on Experience

A teacher from Florida, who recently won a lawsuit regarding a Charlie Kirk poster in her classroom, has penned a book detailing her experiences.

William Logans, a social studies instructor at Horizon High School within the Orange County Public Schools (OCPS), shared that the conflict began last October when students raised concerns about the poster. School officials subsequently ordered its removal. The poster featured Kirk with the message, “Never underestimate the power of your voice and the impact you can have on the world by saying what you believe.”

According to OCPS, the poster breached its neutrality policy, which forbids political displays in classrooms. However, Logans argued that it wasn’t an endorsement of any political stance and pointed out that other political figure posters, like those of Barack Obama and Malcolm X, were permitted.

Frustrated by the lack of backing from the teachers’ union, Logans sought legal help and lodged an administrative complaint against the school district. He received support from Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis and the Department of Education’s Office of Parental Rights. Eventually, the district allowed the poster to be re-displayed.

Logans told Fox News Digital about his book, “Quiet Courage in the Classroom: One Teacher’s Stand on Freedom and the Future of America’s Youth.” In it, he encourages educators and students to “think critically and speak up for what you believe.”

The book expands beyond the poster issue, addressing what he views as school administrations “suppressing freedom of thought in classrooms and penalizing educators who challenge policies.”

This ordeal has inspired Logans to support faith-based nonprofits like the Freedom to Think Project. This initiative aims to arm educators, parents, and students with the resources to counter school districts and unions he perceives as targeting conservative perspectives.

Moreover, Logans mentioned that students at Horizon High School have expressed interest in starting a Club America chapter of Turning Point USA.

“It’s important to note that it isn’t exclusively a Republican or conservative club,” Logans explained. “It’s an American club—where individuals who believe in the Constitution and the principles of the Founding Fathers come together to discuss various ideas civilly.”

However, Logans continues to face backlash following the poster incident. He revealed that he was placed under investigation after an anonymous complaint alleged he promotes “conservative values,” although the case was cleared after officials found no bias.

In defense of its actions, OCPS issued a statement, reaffirming that the decision to remove the poster was aligned with school board policy and a memo from the Florida Board of Education. This memo cautioned that educators expressing personal opinions could undermine trust and may violate certain regulations if students and families feel alienated.
