A public school teacher has been suspended after allegedly showing students a video of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, which reportedly involved a 10-year-old student, according to Canadian officials.
The teacher also expressed that Kirk should be killed and allegedly spoke to younger students about issues related to anti-fascism and transgender topics.
“Several students went home expressing distress to their parents after seeing the footage,” a source told the Toronto Sun, highlighting an incident at a Toronto school that occurred on Thursday.
The report noted that Kirk was killed on September 10 during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
Parents subsequently reached out to the school’s administrator, who is set to be on leave starting September 12, 2025, as the school year begins.
The source mentioned, “While replaying the video multiple times, the teacher discussed anti-fascism and anti-trans sentiment, suggesting that Charlie Kirk deserved it.”
According to the Toronto Sun, letters were sent home to all students impacted by the incident, describing the teacher’s actions as “very troublesome and completely intrusive.”
A letter from Jennifer Cottie, principal of Corvette Junior Public Schools, stated that during class, some students had shown violent videos in response to inquiries about recent tragedies in the United States.
The teacher is reported to have shown this video to students in 5th and 6th grades (typically ages 10-11) and those involved were not regular classroom teachers but staff supervising immersive French classes.
“Teachers will be relieved of their educational duties until the results of the investigation are released and they are not returning to school,” the letter concluded.
