Teacher Reportedly Forces Autistic Boy To The Ground, Breaking His Ankle

Incident Involving Teacher and Autistic Student

A teacher at a Texas elementary school allegedly threw a 5-year-old autistic boy to the ground, resulting in a broken ankle, while another teacher reportedly kicked him, as shown in video footage.

Surveillance footage obtained by KHOU 11 News details the incidents at Wild Peach Elementary School. In one clip, a teacher seemingly lifts the boy and slams him down. Later, the same teacher is seen dropping the boy again within an hour. In a third clip, another teacher appears to kick the boy’s injured ankle to force him to walk.

The boy’s mother, Guadalupe Rodriguez, shared with KHOU 11 News that her son, who is nonverbal and autistic, limped home after the incident. An emergency room visit revealed he had a broken bone and a sprained ankle. Seeking answers, Rodriguez visited the school and viewed the disturbing footage.

“This is a permanent trauma for me and my son,” she expressed emotionally. “I fell to my knees and cried because I never expected something like that to happen. I never expected my son to be treated like that.”

The Columbia-Brazoria Independent School District has confirmed that the teachers involved have been dismissed. In addition, the Texas Education Agency has been informed, and the police department is in contact with the Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office, as noted in a letter from the school’s principal, Anne Cohea.

Rodriguez conveyed her disappointment regarding the response to the teachers’ actions. “I feel relieved, but I’m not at all satisfied with their response. Neither of them are in jail. They’re still walking free,” she stated. Her son has not returned to Wild Peach Elementary, and she is considering legal actions.

Principal Cohea informed parents about the incident, emphasizing that an investigation is still underway. She remarked, “The safety and well-being of our students is of paramount importance. This behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the standards, expectations, and values of Wild Peach Elementary School and Columbia Brazoria ISD.”

KHOU 11 News reached out to Cohea and the District Attorney’s Office, but there was no immediate response.
