Team star desires NFL to prohibit ‘budget’ tush push

NFL Owners Set for Discussions on Controversial Play

NFL owners are gearing up for discussions about controversial plays during their upcoming meeting in Minnesota later this week. This conversation follows a recent proposal to ban specific plays that have become a defining strategy for the Philadelphia Eagles in recent seasons.

Last month, the owners faced a contentious vote regarding the infamous “Tush Push” play, which resulted in a deadlock—16 owners supported keeping it while another 16 wanted a ban. With proposals needing at least 24 votes to pass, this has left things hanging, creating uncertainty about the future of the play.

Desmond Watson, often referred to as “The Tush Push Terminator,” recently expressed his opinion on NFL Network, stating, “Personally, I think they should ban it.” However, he acknowledged that it’s a tough argument to make, emphasizing the tactical necessity for teams in tight yardage situations.

Watson drew parallels to rugby, suggesting the Tush Push lacks integrity, describing it as “a cheap play.” He argued that it resembles a rugby scrum, emphasizing the need for both teams to have equal footing and a clear cadence for executing such plays.

In a prior game against the Eagles, Watson, a linebacker for the Washington Commanders, faced penalties for jumping the line during an attempted Tush Push, prompting officials to warn that further infractions could lead to unexpected penalties.

Ultimately, the Eagles triumphed over the Commanders in the NFC Championship Game, securing their place in Super Bowl LIX, while dashing the Kansas City Chiefs’ hopes for a third consecutive title.
