USA Men’s Speed Skating Team Wins Silver at Milan-Cortina Games
The USA men’s speed skating team clinched a silver medal on Tuesday at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games, finishing just behind Italy in the team pursuit event.
Comprising Ethan Seplan, Casey Dawson, and Emery Lehman, the team recorded a time of 3 minutes and 43.71 seconds. Italy’s team, featuring Davide Ghiotto, Andrea Giovannini, and Michele Malfatti, took home the gold with a faster time of 3:39.20.
In this particular race, the United States had a strong start, although Italy mounted a vigorous push towards the end.
This marks the second team pursuit medal for Seplan, Dawson, and Lehman, who also competed with Joey Mattia during the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Notably, they set a world record for the team pursuit in November, recording a time of 3:32.49.
Seplan, Dawson, and Lehman had aspirations of earning gold. They acknowledged that while they may not have been the strongest individual skaters, their teamwork was exceptional. In fact, Dawson opted out of the Olympic 10,000 meters last week to concentrate on this team pursuit.
China secured the bronze medal, defeating the Netherlands with a solid performance from Liu Hanbin, Wu Yu, and Li Wenhao.
