The U.S. women’s basketball team defeated France 67-66 in the gold medal game on Sunday to claim the gold medal at the Paris Olympics.
A’ja Wilson led the team with 21 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks.
A strong drive from Kalia Copper put the U.S. up by three with 1:22 left, and the U.S. was able to get enough of a stop to prevent France from closing the gap.
Kelsey Plum made two free throws to put the U.S. up by four, but Gabby Williams made a three-pointer to cut France’s lead to one. After Cuppers made two free throws, Williams had another shot. She made it, but because she was on the goal line, it only counted for two points.
