America’s Tribute: Senator Ted Budd Reflects on Tradition and Innovation
As part of the special America 250 coverage, videos from various government officials have been collected under the theme of a love for the country. In a recent video for this project, Senator Ted Budd (R-North Carolina) discussed America’s balance of honoring tradition while also embracing innovation.
Budd highlighted the enduring spirit that motivated the Founding Fathers to push back against excessive regulations. He pointed out that this same principle continues to fuel progress in North Carolina, making it a national leader in innovation.
“As we celebrate 250 years of America, we remember a fundamental truth,” Budd stated. “We are a nation that cherishes tradition while also embracing new ideas. From our beginnings, this country has excelled in creativity and advancement, and that success hasn’t been by mere chance.”
He emphasized, “This progress came about because we chose freedom. 250 years ago, our Founding Fathers rejected unnecessary regulation and sought to create something better. That same spirit motivates us today. The areas where growth occurs are not those that stifle their people with regulation.”
Budd shared how North Carolina exemplifies growth in the nation, citing its “world-class universities, robust infrastructure, and a prepared workforce.” He remarked on the palpable energy as people and businesses flock to the state.
“At the core of all this is a fundamental truth: Our rights originate from God, not the government. It is the government’s duty to safeguard those rights, ensuring that freedom remains intact, property is secure, and innovators can take risks to bring new ideas to life. When freedom is upheld, innovation thrives, and in turn, America leads,” Budd added.
His reflections come as the nation gears up to celebrate its 250th anniversary. In April, the organization Freedom 250 announced that the Great American State Fair, in honor of this milestone, will be held on the National Mall from June 25 to July 10.
