Sen. Ted Cruz Calls for Contempt Charges Against Anthony Fauci

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is pushing for charges of contempt and perjury against Anthony Fauci, stating that Fauci invoked his Fifth Amendment rights over 100 times during a Senate hearing on Wednesday.

“Years from now, people will question what drove this group that attacked our country,” Cruz shared with a news outlet. He added, “I believe Anthony Fauci has disrespected both Congress and the American public for many years. His own diary suggests he has repeatedly misled the public.”

Criticism Grows for Fauci

Cruz’s remarks came after Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Rand Paul indicated he would move to hold Fauci in contempt after the latter avoided self-incrimination by skipping over questions during the hearing.

“Dr. Fauci needs to confront the reality of his career. What will stick in people’s minds is his repeated reliance on the Fifth Amendment,” Cruz remarked further. He described him as “the most toxic bureaucrat in American history.”

Long-standing Tensions

The conflict between Cruz and Fauci has been ongoing, reflecting broader tensions between Fauci and certain Republican senators, particularly regarding his handling of the pandemic and accusations of disloyalty to both Congress and the public regarding the virus’s origins.

In his diary, Fauci noted early on that the coronavirus likely did not stem from the Wuhan wet market, only to later publicly assert the opposite. Cruz mentioned, “He acknowledged in his diary that the origins needed more scrutiny but shifted his messaging to the public.” This inconsistency has raised eyebrows. It appears that while Fauci believed in the possibility of laboratory origins, his public statements contradicted this assessment.

Impact of School Closures

Cruz also took issue with Fauci’s role in advocating for school closures, claiming that Fauci pressured leaders in New York and California to shut down schools. This runs counter to Fauci’s public assertions where he claimed he “didn’t close schools.” Cruz stated, “He boasts about persuading Democrats to enforce school closures, yet he publicly denies supporting such measures.”

The senator expressed concern that the consequences of these closures could haunt children for years. “The educational setbacks faced by our kids will linger well into their adult lives, all due to what Fauci termed ‘necessary government actions,'” he commented.

In summation, Cruz believes that Fauci’s actions warrant serious legal repercussions, stating, “His awareness of the lies means he should face contempt charges, perjury charges, and ultimately serve time.”
