Sen. Ted Cruz Critiques Biden’s Autopen Scandal Defense

Senator Ted Cruz of Texas weighed in on the Democrats’ stance regarding the Autopen scandal, suggesting that many actions attributed to former President Biden might, in fact, be “invalid.” He made this claim during a podcast, amid ongoing investigations by Congressional Republicans into the implications of Biden’s health on his ability to make official decisions.

Cruz emphasized that “unelected aides who run autopens do not have the authority to grant pardons under the US Constitution.” While Biden has publicly addressed the allegations and denied any wrongdoing, Cruz contended that these denials inadvertently weaken his defense.

“The Trump White House should release the records because we need to specifically look at the documents that indicate Biden signed particular actions,” Cruz stated. He referenced an explanation from Biden and his team to the New York Times, which discussed the process of issuing pardons via Autopen.

Biden’s aides indicated to the Times that the president did not personally approve every individual case of amnesty. Instead, the process involved establishing criteria for pardons, after which the Bureau of Prisons provided a list of eligible candidates. The aides then signed the pardons using the Autopen, which they described as a “routine procedure.”

Cruz maintained that this method of signing raises serious questions regarding the legitimacy of the pardons and called for legal challenges. He argued that, without proper legal standing, these actions should be scrutinized. “They have no legal authority,” he asserted, urging that legal frameworks be deployed to contest these decisions.

In a broader context, Cruz accused the Biden administration of dishonesty. “They’re liars. They know that,” he remarked, indicating a belief that the administration has consistently misrepresented its actions.
