Ted Cruz Eagerly Sought a Photo with Nicki Minaj at Trump Accounts Event

Sen. Ted Cruz’s Awkward Encounter with Nicki Minaj

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) found himself in a rather uncomfortable position during the presidential race when he attempted to take a photo with rap artist Nicki Minaj on Wednesday.

Minaj was present with President Donald Trump at the Trump Account Launch Summit in Washington, sharing the stage with various celebrities, government officials, and congressional members.

Reports indicate that Cruz was among several individuals in the crowd seeking a picture with Minaj but was ultimately rebuffed.

“Sen. Ted Cruz really wanted a photo with Nicki Minaj,” a source said. “He was backstage today and didn’t get what he wanted. His team wasn’t pleased with President Trump’s adviser, Alex Brusewitz, over this.”

Cruz’s spokesperson quickly pushed back against the report, questioning the motives behind it. “I don’t know who your sources are, or why this story is being spun. Everyone seems upset. Please try again,” Macarena Martinez, Cruz’s Communications Director, stated.

Martinez also shared a somewhat blurry photo showing Cruz gesturing towards Minaj with an awkward smile, alongside a perplexed-looking Brusewitz.

Matt Boyle, Washington bureau chief for Breitbart News, didn’t seem to accept Martinez’s response without skepticism. He noted, “This confirms the facts. Cruz tried to ambush her at the venue to get a photo and was unsuccessful. His staff was reportedly frustrated with Brusewitz about why he didn’t capture a posed shot of Cruz with Minaj.”

Boyle even shared a snapshot of Minaj with Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), adding, “Apparently Ted Cruz couldn’t get that, so he rushed Nicki Minaj. There was even a staff member positioned in the hallway to take pictures. It’s a pretty strange move for a U.S. senator.”

Brusewitz, who was with Minaj on that day, downplayed the situation the next day but clarified that while Minaj made time for photos with fans, Cruz wasn’t among them. “This is getting out of hand. A lot of people in D.C. have reached out about this reported interaction. It wasn’t personal. I hope people aren’t mad at me, but who knows?” he remarked.

He added, “We were in a rush trying to get Nicki Minaj to meet the President. She tried to interact with as many people as possible and was very generous with her time.”

This wasn’t Cruz’s only awkward celebrity interaction that day. He also invited musician Kid Rock to speak before the Senate Commerce Committee and later shared a video of their encounter.

“Star Soccer Cruz! Desperate for attention!” Boyle commented, highlighting the peculiarities of Cruz’s day.

The senator’s behavior comes after recordings of him harshly criticizing Vice President J.D. Vance during a private meeting surfaced, where he also mocked Trump’s tariff strategies. These recordings hint at Cruz’s ongoing struggle as a pre-Trump Republican ahead of his 2028 campaign against Vance.

Speculation continues about the motivations behind the leaked recording, suggesting it aimed to showcase Cruz’s intent to oppose Trump’s influence and steer the party back to an era dominated by figures like John McCain and Mitt Romney, who faced electoral defeats.
