Kevin Durant Traded to Houston Rockets
Senator Ted Cruz from Texas has welcomed Kevin Durant, following the news that the 15-time NBA All-Star has been traded to the Houston Rockets from the Phoenix Suns. This trade, which took place this past Sunday, sees Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th overall pick in the 2025 draft, and five second-round picks heading to the Suns. However, the trade won’t be official until the offseason begins on July 6.
Cruz expressed his excitement about the deal in a post on X, stating, “Congratulations to #Rockets! Losing Brooks really hurts. He’s savage in defense, but KD is an absolute beast. Amazing trade!”
Speculation around Durant’s potential trade has been ongoing for weeks. The Suns found themselves missing the playoffs with a disappointing record during the previous season. It seems Phoenix hopes that adding Durant alongside Devin Booker and Bradley Beal could help them make a stronger push towards the NBA Finals.
Unfortunately for the Suns, their recent playoff performance has not been up to par, as they didn’t get past the semi-finals in the 2022-23 season and exited in the first round during the 2023-24 season. Durant, now 36, continues to be known for his scoring ability when healthy. Last season, he averaged 26.6 points per game while shooting an impressive 52.7% from the field. He has consistently been an All-Star since the 2009-10 season, aside from missing the entire 2019-20 season due to injury.
The Rockets have been quite active this offseason. Reports indicate that they have expanded coaching staff after finishing second in the Western Conference.
