JD Vance’s RNC midterm convention speech sparks 2028 rumors
Political commentator Joe Sweeny discussed JD Vance’s position within the Republican Party during a segment on Fox News. Sweeny analyzed Vance’s speeches, including one at the Republican National Convention in Dallas, noting Vance’s emergence as a millennial voice for the MAGA movement and his growing influence in the GOP.
In a twist of events, Senator Ted Cruz accused Vance of feeling “insecure” after Vance implied Cruz was already positioning himself for a presidential run in 2028. This public back-and-forth highlights a brewing rivalry between two potential GOP candidates. Cruz remarked to Politico that political bomb-throwing often stems from insecurity, responding to Vance’s statement about Cruz’s presidential ambitions during an interview with NBC News.
“He can say whatever he wants,” Cruz noted, expressing a focus on the upcoming midterm elections instead. Meanwhile, Vance addressed the NBC News platform, stating, “It is really obvious to me that Ted Cruz is running for president, while I’m just trying to help elect Republicans.” He emphasized his current commitment to supporting Republican efforts.
Vance is seen as a strong contender for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination, while Cruz, who previously sought the nomination in 2016, has not ruled out another attempt. He mentioned to MS NOW that he would be involved in the 2028 discussions.
Despite the speculation about presidential aspirations, Cruz indicated on Saturday that his focus remains on aiding Republicans in retaining control of Congress. He pointed to his campaign engagements across multiple states, asserting his dedication to supporting various GOP candidates.
Reflecting on his past, Cruz mentioned his role in Vance’s triumph during the 2022 Ohio Senate race, expressing satisfaction in having contributed to Vance’s victory.
Meanwhile, Vance has also remained active in the political scene, supporting GOP candidates in both Texas and Florida recently, and is set to hold a rally in Alaska shortly.
