Teddi Mellencamp declines father's request to relocate during his stage 4 cancer diagnosis

Teddi Mellencamp’s Health Journey: Choosing Home Over Indiana

Teddi Mellencamp is determined to recover from her stage 4 cancer in the comfort of her home, despite her father, John Mellencamp, urging her to return to Indiana for a peaceful healing process. The former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star, now 44, did consider her father’s plea but seems hesitant to make the move anytime soon.

Recently joining the cast of “The Masked Singer,” Teddi shared her reasons for staying in Los Angeles. John, during an interview on “Today,” expressed his desire for her to live nearby, highlighting the need for family support during tough times. He mentioned, “I suggested, ‘Go back to Indiana, take the kids, and live here,’ but she didn’t respond.”

Teddi, however, was surprised by his comments. In a conversation with Fox News Digital, she stated, “I’m not going to Indiana.” She elaborated, mentioning her family ties: “I have a lot of children. They go to school here. Edwin, my estranged husband, lives here.” The reality of her situation felt overwhelming, as she added, “It’s like he’s really pushing me, and I’m in pain.”

She received a call from her publicist that made her reflect on her emotional state, saying, “I’m suffering, and it’s hard.” Teddi noted that some days are filled with joy, while others are marked by tears and confusion about the future.

“With the type of cancer I’ve had for three years, you can’t say I’m cancer-free,” John explained during the interview. He mentioned that Teddi has a lesion on her brain, originally a small spot that had grown larger over time.

Teddi revealed some key insights about her health. She has balanced good and bad days; during immunotherapy, she often feels quite unwell. However, her recent participation in “The Masked Singer” has brought her unexpected joy and a sense of purpose, allowing her to witness improvement in her condition.

Teddi first disclosed her stage 2 melanoma diagnosis in March 2022, later revealing in April that it had escalated to stage IV cancer, spreading to her brain and lungs. Surgery to remove a tumor discovered more complications, yet a later scan indicated some positive changes. Despite her struggles, she remarked on how much “The Masked Singer” has done for her, noting improvements in her movement and spirits, even if there are challenging days.

Reflecting on family dynamics, she shared, “My dad really wants to be involved, but fortunately, I have strong support here.” Although she’s open to possibly moving, she added, chuckling, “If I were to go home, it would be Hilton Head, not Indiana. Nothing personal, but I really don’t like cold weather.”

In a humorous moment, she also mentioned, “My dad called me multiple times the other day, obsessing over where I might be buried.” She recalled, “He wants to make sure I’m in the family mausoleum,” joking that she’s even thought about having “Hot girls Never Die” inscribed on her tombstone.

So, amidst everything, Teddi remains focused on her journey, noting her healing process may not align neatly with anyone else’s timeline, but she feels grateful for the positives she’s discovering along the way.
